Carmen Garcia received her B.A. and an M.A. from State University of New York at Buffalo in Theater and American Studies and earned an MA from New York University in Health Studies (Deafness Rehabilitation). She is a trilingual interpreter with a strong background in legal/court interpreting and serves as an interpreter mentor/trainer for the New York State Grant for Educational Interpreters.
Her research interests include first and second language acquisition/language deprivation among the deaf population, especially the Latino deaf, and mental processes in interpreting for message equivalence. Her most recent publication is Banana Face, a collection of short stories addressing cultural, communication and identity issues.
