Julie A. Riess received her A.B. from Vassar College and her Ph.D. in developmental and social psychology from Brandeis University. Trained as a developmental psychologist and elementary education teacher, her work has focused on linking developmental theory and basic research with educational and parenting practices. Her research interests include proactive parenting, the relationship between affect and cognition, and early intervention linked with inclusion-based programming. She also serves as a consultant for early child care facilities and lectures on topics on improving the quality of child care for all children. Ms. Riess writes her bi-weekly Sunday column, The Early Years, for the Poughkeepsie Journal and Gannett Publications.

She currently serves as Board President of the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum and as a Board Member of the Child Care Council of Dutchess.
